Computational and neural mechanisms underlying structure learning

A03Computational and neural mechanisms underlying structure learning

To make appropriate decisions, it is crucial to learn latent structures of the environment. In this project, we aim to elucidate how humans learn the hidden structures and how the structure learning is implemented in the brain, by combining human neuroimaging experiments with computational approaches developed in artificial intelligence. Specifically, in order to uncover the computational and neural mechanisms underlying the structure learning, in the neuroimaging experiment we will construct a computational model that can account for human subjects’ behavior and correlate the model with the neural activity. We will also conduct a large-scale web-based behavioral experiment to relate individual differences in the way of structure learning with psychiatric disorders.
